When I was asked by my dad if I would like a course of driving lessons for my 17th birthday I jumped at the opportunity. Then all I had to do was to find a suitable driving instructor in the Stoke-On-Trent area. I was advised to contact Nick (Miles Ahead Driving School) on doing so we arranged my first of my driving lessons two days after my birthday. During my first lesson I found Nick very helpful which made me feel relaxed which encouraged me to do well in further driving lessons. He helped me to feel confident and at ease throughout all my driving lessons. Also, his methods of using diagrams and reference points in manoeuvres enabled me to understand better what I had to achieve. I quickly became comfortable with driving and enjoyed every driving lesson I had. Through my lessons Nick gave me a card which he recorded my progress on and the time of my next lesson. He was very flexible when fitting me in to his busy schedule and the card helped me to keep track of where I was and how well I was doing which was incredibly useful.

I started learning at the end of February 2010 and passed my practical test on 28th August 2010 and did around 40-45 hours through that period of time. It was such a relief when the examiner told me I had passed and it was all down to Nick’s patience and hard work. A huge thanks is needed for him and would recommend him to anybody else who is looking for driving instructor. He is an excellent driving instructor and should get so much gratitude for what he does.

I have been having driving lessons on and off for 11 years and had some driving instructors take the mick :( then i found you!!!! You are the best driving instructor i have had in all the 11 years of my learning. You’re patient and a fab teacher. You sure don’t take the mick and you built my confidence and made me start believing in myself. I so nearly gave up after failing the last time but you didn’t let me did you???? I’m so thankful for that because I wouldn’t have experienced the best feeling in the world. I still cant believe I have passed but I did and I want to say the biggest thank you, to you. You’re the best!!!!!!!

By the time I met Nick (Miles Ahead Driving School) all confidence in my driving ability had vanished. I can honestly say I have lost count of the amount of driving tests I attended. I was starting to accept a life of inconvenience and being dependent upon other people. One driving instructors patience ran out and told me she thought it was best she no longer taught me and to continue in my own car, I felt abandoned unable to carry on.

After composing myself I decided to try one last time. I found Nick’s contact details online I had contacted many instructors by this time however he seemed to genuinely care and took a real interest. On my first lesson with him I arrived home having enjoyed my lesson for the first time. It was a new experience for me, looking forward to my driving lessons as opposed to approaching my lesson with extreme trepidation as I had with my previous instructors. Finally there was a light at the end of the tunnel.

Nick was always there to motivate and assure me that I can pass and explained things in a way that made sense. He was exceptionally supportive and patient. With my theory test expiring soon he was determined to work towards that deadline. It’s still settling in that I passed my driving test today and is an incredible feeling. I truly believe without Nicks encouraging and compassionate nature I would begrudgingly be booking another theory test. My only regret is not meeting Nick for my first lesson. I would like to thank him for his dedication and would recommend him to anyone. I would like to say an immense thank you to him and wish all his pupils the best of luck. Thanks again

"After a long time of being driven everywhere I was finally given the push I needed to go and learn to drive. My work had said if I wanted to progress then driving is a must. At 31 years old I felt that I had left it later than most people. I was fortunate enough to have been given a phone number from a work colleague to call to book some lessons.

I phoned, Nick (one of the Miles Ahead instructors) sounded very pleasant and friendly so I arranged my 1st two lessons. I have a lot of dealings with people in my workplace and found Nick to be very polite and knowledgeable about his profession. Nick explains the lesson beforehand with diagrams and pictures of certain manoeuvres. Combined with helpful reference points to help whilst driving, I knew Nick had vast experience in the best learning techniques. I booked a block of ten lessons, deciding to have 2 hours a week. A few months later Nick advised me about the theory test and recommended suitable practice cd software and books. With his help I passed the theory test 1st time with only one wrong answer.

I started driving with Nick in July/August 07 and was ready for my test Jan 08. By this time I had attended approx 35-40 hours of tuition and felt ready for the last step. I had a final lesson a hour before my test and had been on several test routes to get used to where the examiner could take me. This proved to be very useful as the route I was given was one that I had practiced with Nick a week before.

I found the test a lot easier than I had imagined and that was only down to Nick's thorough preparation. Because of this I passed with only two minor faults. I cannot thank Nick enough, he has now given me the opportunity to progress in my workplace. My name is Nicki and until I started learning with Nick, I was convinced I was the worst driver in the world..!

Me and driving...where do I start? I took my first test in 1991 at the age of 17, totally unprepared and full of false confidence. As you would expect I failed...badly! This was the beginning of the confidence crisis. What I didn't realise at the time was the importance of a good instructor and that I had been poorly advised. I was so shaken that I couldn't face taking another test until I was in my mid twenties, by this time I managed to build the test up to epic proportions and was terrified. Two more failed tests followed. I was now in the grip of a driving test phobia!!

Not being able to drive when it appears everyone else in the world can is awful. I'm by nature an independent person and having to rely on other people was horrible and restricting. At the insistence of a friend I resolved to give it one more go…

From the start Nick was different, I never felt like just another pupil. Nick listened to me and tailored a plan around me. On the first lesson I was so scared we didn't get further than a mile...my leg was shaking so much that I thought that Nick wouldn't turn up again in case I had some strange shaking disease! But turn up he did! This kind, funny and patient man slowly but surely began to build my confidence. To my amazement I actually enjoyed the lessons and yes I made mistakes but I left every lesson feeling I had achieved something…

I finally passed my test this year!! It has made an enormous difference to my life...finally I have independence!. I cannot begin to describe how grateful I am to Nick for having faith in me. I could not have done it without his encouragement and belief in me. I would urge anyone who is considering learning to drive to give Nick a call. He is the best instructor around and believe me I should know!! I cannot begin to recommend him enough……

When I reached seventeen, I thought it was time to learn to drive so I booked a block course of driving lessons. After a few months of driving I was hating it and thought it wasn’t for me.

Then a friend told me about Nick and I phoned him, and thought I’d try a lesson with him. I came back from my lesson and realised that driving was after all, for me. Nick was very patient, caring teacher who brought me on in leaps and bounds.

I have now passed my test, and it’s thanks to Nick with all his help, understanding and encouragement. Without him, I’m sure I would have given up.
